How to Care for Mesh: A Second Skin Guide

Mesh looks delicate. It mostly isn't, but it does need a different approach than the rest of your wardrobe.

Three pairs of mesh thong underwear in lavender, lime green, and black, arranged in a fan shape against a light gray background.

Every mesh piece across Second Skin RTW, the underwear, the tanks, the leggings, the tops, is built from the same 90% polyamide, 10% spandex blend. That means one care routine covers the whole mesh range. Here's how to actually keep it in good shape.

Know what you're washing

Polyamide and spandex is a synthetic stretch blend built to hold its shape and stay sheer without going see-through in the wrong way. It's fairly durable, but the spandex content is also the part that degrades fastest if it's mistreated. Heat is its main enemy, in the wash and in the dryer.

The wash routine

Cold water, gentle cycle, inside out. That's the whole rule, really.

Turning mesh pieces inside out before washing protects the outer surface and any lacing or strapping detail from friction against other items in the wash, which matters more for mesh than most fabrics since the open weave is more exposed to snagging and pilling than a solid knit.

Skip the dryer entirely. Heat is what breaks down spandex's elasticity over time, a few trips through a hot dryer and you'll notice the stretch recovery isn't what it used to be. Reshape the piece by hand and lay it flat to dry instead.

No bleach, ever. It weakens the spandex fibres specifically, even in small amounts.
Storage

Mesh doesn't need anything special in storage, just avoid folding it under heavier items for long periods, since the open weave can hold a crease more visibly than a denser fabric would.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put mesh in the dryer?

No. Heat breaks down the spandex content over time and reduces elasticity. Air dry instead.

Why wash mesh inside out?

It protects the outer surface, and any lacing, strapping or embroidered detail, from friction against other items during the wash cycle.

Is 90% polyamide/10% spandex durable?

Yes, with proper care. The main risk to longevity is heat exposure, both in washing and drying, rather than everyday wear.

Does this care routine apply to every mesh piece?

Yes. Every mesh piece across Second Skin RTW, underwear, tanks, leggings and tops, is made from the same 90% polyamide, 10% spandex blend, so one routine covers the full range.
