In 2024, Toblerone partnered with Vogue Australia to launch the Never Square Designer Award, a competition built around a simple provocation: take the most recognisable triangle in confectionery and reinvent it through fashion. Three Australian designers were shortlisted for the honour. Erik Yvon was named the inaugural winner, crowned at Vogue American Express Fashion's Night Out, as reported by Vogue Australia.
The brief
Toblerone isn't an obvious fashion collaborator. That was rather the point. The Never Square campaign paired the brand with three Australian designers across video, social, longform and editorial work over several weeks, all building toward a single night where one design would be chosen to represent the brand's identity, translated through a completely different medium.
For Erik, the brief lined up naturally with a design language he was already working in. ERIK-YVON has never been a label interested in restraint, colour, print and texture doing most of the talking across every collection. Taking on a chocolate brand's visual identity and pushing it somewhere unexpected was less of a stretch than it might sound.
Winning the award
Erik was named the first winner of the Never Square Designer Award, a recognition that placed his design at the centre of one of Toblerone's biggest brand moments in years. The winning design was developed into limited-edition packaging, taking Erik's print off the runway and onto shelves nationally, a genuinely rare crossover between independent fashion design and mainstream retail packaging. See the full campaign coverage from Vogue Australia's Fashion's Night Out.

It's worth sitting with how unusual that is. Most fashion collaborations stay inside fashion, a capsule collection, a runway moment, a lookbook. This one put an independent Melbourne designer's print onto a product millions of people would pick up without necessarily knowing the story behind it.
Why this print, specifically
The design that won holds up as more than a novelty crossover. It's built from the kind of dense, textured, colour-saturated pattern work that runs through Erik's collections more broadly, the same instinct that shows up in his knitwear, his prints, his installations. Toblerone's triangular identity gave the design a strict geometric constraint to work within. What came out the other side was recognisably Erik Yvon regardless.
That's the real story here, not that a designer worked with a chocolate brand, but that his design language was strong and specific enough to survive translation into an entirely different category and still read as unmistakably his.
From packaging to fabric
Every so often, a print earns a second life. The pattern that won the Never Square award has been adapted into the textured aqua and pink print on the Second Skin Textured Print Crew Socks, an all-over cotton sock built to carry an award-winning design somewhere most people will never expect to find it: around an ankle, not on a shelf.

The socks are crew length, made from 100% cotton, finished with a contrast blue ribbed cuff, heel and toe, and the ERIK-YVON wordmark printed along the sole in lime green. A small woven "ERIK ♥ U" tag sits at the cuff.

They're a small object with an outsized amount of story behind them: an award-winning design, translated out of packaging and into something you can actually wear every day, not just admire once.

The Second Skin Textured Print Crew Socks in Aqua/Pink are available now.

For a small, everyday object, they carry a genuinely uncommon amount of history: a chocolate brand, a Vogue partnership, an inaugural award, and a print that made the jump from limited-edition packaging to a piece you can wear on repeat. Shop the socks here.
